Searching Them Out (1/15/05)
For this shot, I was trying to capture winter in Wisconsin. Instead, I found these interesting weeds that were left over from the fall. Once I started looking, they seemed to be everywhere. The way I framed them in this shot gives a good sense of their presence along this road. I love the subtle winter colors in this shot: the pale blues of the late afternoon sun on the snow, and the light browns of the land resting for the season. It always amazes me how during the winter, the color palette of the earth is so pale and subtle, practically black and white. I find a real beauty in these light colors, but you definitely have to search them out.
