The Passion (3/6/04)
I shot this photo the morning after I saw the movie The Passion of the Christ. I needed to go for a walk, clear my head a bit, and think about the amazing movie I'd seen the night before. When I snapped this photo, mere feet away from my house, my only intention was to capture these peculiar little berries that seemed oddly out of place on this late winter day. Looking at it once I got home, I was a bit blown away. I immediately saw a crown of thorns, the brick wall reminded me of the path Jesus took to the cross, and the berries remind me of drops of blood. It's funny, how, subconsciously, I seek out images that are lodged in the back of my mind. This is the first real photo I've shot of something quite literal, but see something completely representative of other imagery and ideas. I'm convinced that this photo needed to be shot.
