New
Years Eve 1999 (12/31/99)
This photo was shot on New Years Eve 1999, in Madison, Wisconsin
(well, technically Brooklyn, WI). In honor of the closing of
the decade, my friends and I decided to carry on our yearly New
Years Eve party tradition, but make this one an 80s party. We
had 8 hours of 80s music, decorations, and more liquor than we
probably should have had! This picture was taken before the party
started, and I actually was on my back to get this shot of our
make-shift balloon drop. There was much concern during the night
(especially as the drinks got stronger and stronger) whether
or not the balloon drop would work. Well, on 1/1/2000, at precisely
12:00 am, the balloon drop worked, or as my friend Jim drunkenly
told everybody for the rest of the night "It fuckin' worked!!"
Funny, that was the extent of our Y2K concerns!!! As a side not
to the New Years Eve story, Jim, the host of the party, continued
to find the confetti from the balloon drop around his place until
he moved out last year! I love the color in this shot, and how
it represents our awesome New Years Eve parties and my great
group of friends.
