The Ol' Homestead (6/22/04)
Here's another shot in my "America's Dairyland" series. My grandparents lived on this farm for many years when they first were starting out. I believe my mom lived there when she was born as well. A wonderful great-uncle of mine used to live there when I was growing up. Now this farm is owned by somebody else, and the house on the right is gone. In this photo, the roof is already being torn off of the house. It's sad to see a place that was once a home to members of my family, in a way, a part of my history, being ripped apart and slowly disappearing. Unfortunately, that's the sad state of much of the farm land in this part of Wisconsin right now. Acres and acres of wide open spaces are being sold to the highest bidder, always some hotshot developer, which eventually becomes a new subdivision for suburbia or business parks. I shot this photo for my Grandpa.
