My Precious (7/03)
This photo was shot a few Saturdays ago (June 2003). These are flowers that I'm growing this summer, on my front porch. There's something about the composition of this pict that's a bit off, which is why I like it. Perhaps the flowers are too close to the edge for the way I normally frame things. Kind of that thing where I'm fighting with having too much control over my art or not enough. What I really like about this picture is how these flowers have a brilliant glowing quality about them. I shot this shortly after watering them, in the 1:00 or 2:00 direct sun. The glow happened on film, it was nothing I saw at the time. Just a pleasant little surprise from the photo developers at Walmart! These flowers respond to the sun instantly, closing whenever there's not direct sunlight on them. I have 8 or so pots of flowers that I'm growing this summer, a little hobby that I got from my mom. Yet another hobby of mine. I love watching the growth cycle of flowers, how at first, there's just the tiny little buds, and just like that, it's a brilliant flower which slowly shrivels up, dies, and then new buds miraculously show up shortly after. I could write something about life with that, but I'll leave that up to you guys tonight.
