My title at my job is Product Design Specialist, although I consider myself a graphic designer. I help create training materials for the automotive industry, which includes authoring interactive multimedia CD-ROMs, shooting photographs, doing page layouts and technical drawings, and just lately I've started learning how to create web pages, which will be part of our online training. This web site is kind of a reaction to many of my friends, who always wonder what happened to the artists they knew when I was younger. People have always complimented me on my art talent, especially my drawing. Many of my critics seem to feel that I've given up on my art, and replaced it with all things-digital. And in many ways, I would have to agree that I have...but I yet, I am creative all day long at my job, using that creative part of my brain to create a product that helps train adults. To me, that's a wonderful thing to present to the world...but yet not enough to appease those nasty critics ;) This site is my way to present the art that I do when I get home at night...the art that I do to relax, make sense of this crazy world around me, and keep record of some of the events that happen in my life. Mainly this art is in the form of my journal sketches, hopefully with some explanations as to what I was thinking when I created the piece. I am also quite proud of many of my photographs that I have shot through the years, so my photos will be another, less personal...perhaps more technical...aspect of the site. What better way than to create the art I still love to do, and present it in this new digital format...the exact format that my critics felt was making me turn my back on my art in the first place! I hope that by going though some of these sketches, reading some of my thoughts, and seeing my world through my eyes, that I can help you find the artist in yourself...maybe give you a different outlook on things... and help you with your journey in life. Most of all though, I just hope you enjoy my world, and come back often. Enjoy! - Gary P.S. The sketch on the home page of this site was drawn in response to when I got my job shortly out of college...the job I still have. It seems like such a fitting drawing...because at the time, it reflected my success...but now, it represents the culmination of the digital aspect of my art, which I learned at my job, and the artistic aspect of my talents, that I learned in college and throughout life. :) |
